Rustic Souk Jemaa El Fna

There is nowhere in Morocco like Jemaa El Fna square. Unlike the other square, this red city will never sleep from the crowds and its rustic souks. Souk "سوق" is an Arabic word for market. The magical Jemaa El Fna is a carnival destination for magicians, snake charmers, art performers, musicians, storytellers, and fortune tellers have foretold the life of many Moroccans. Like no other places I have visited, Marrakesh allows me to stay and will be coming back for more.

The carnival happens only in the afternoon. So when the dusk emerged, the square is flooded by the people immersed by the carnival shows. Jemaa El Fna looked so delightful at night. Sometimes, if you wonder to escape from the crowds walk up to the rooftop terrace for wide landscape view while sipping a cup of coffee. As you can see the crowds looked so tiny in size mobbed in a circle towards the carnival shows. While people attracted to the carnival shows and make a significant contribution to the atmosphere and cash flow.

Attention to the crowds does not fall into the trick of pickpockets. Give extra care to your belonging when you are traveling alone here. I saw many people flocked at a point in the circle. I walked toward it to find out what is happened over there. There was a strange game called hoop bottles where the player tried to hook the bottles used a stick and rope. Hoop bottles game is one of the conventional game that opened to the public for adults. In Malaysia, it used to play in the primary school sports day.

As I walked through the open square, I saw a row of stalls offered fresh orange juice and also many other fruits like mango, papaya, banana, pomegranate, grape. The juice is so refreshing and super cheap. It was only 4 Moroccan Dirham per glass. As the twilight falls, the square transformed into a huge open-air dining with the swarm of food stalls illuminated by the gasoline lantern. Smokes filtered the air and mixed together into the wonderful smell of the foods from the food stalls. Brochette or Moroccan skewer was my favorite local delicacy. The taste of delicious skewer when it melted in my mouth is never be forgotten.

That is not the only attraction in Marrakesh I have visited. The other significant historic place I visited is Koutoubia Mosque and Ben Yousef Madrasa.
